Obviously our plan may change en route, depending on speed, endurance, and advice from other travelers, but here is a brief description of our planned route, but it is roughly estimated at 3500 miles/5600km
We are flying to Trieste, Italy, to begin our trip, since it's a short distance from the Croatia border, via 40km of cycling through Slovenia.
Down the coast of Croatia, our island hopping will include Krka, Pag, Korcula, also going through the cities of Sibenick, Zadar, Split & Dubrovnik before departing on a ferry to Greece.
Arriving at Igoumenitsa, Greece, we'll be doing a circuit along the mainland and Peloponese, visiting ancient sites of Delphi, and Olympia among others.
Crossing the Adriatic, we'll continue from Bari to Naples and Steve & Loredana's wedding in Castelemmarre di Stabia. We'll continue up the left half of Italy, sometimes along the coast, sometimes not.
Depending on schedules, we may see a stage of the Tour de France, possibly Alpe d'Huez. Regardless, we're planning to hit some of the tour climbs: Mt. Ventoux, Col du Tourmalet and others in the Pyrenees.
It will be hot in August in Spain (with little to no rain), while we may follow some of the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compestela before forking south towards Lisbon for a Portuguese homecoming.
